Live Mixing Console Directory

Mixing consoles come in a dizzying array of sizes, capabilities and price ranges. Some churches are in a position of simply not knowing the options available to them. While no directory can present all of the manufacturers and model options to be had, this directory of mixing consoles for live sound applications is intended to give our readers a sense of the size and scope of currently available products.

ML5000 (Starting at $2399)
Allen & Heath’s ML 5000 27 bus live sound VCA console is available with 32 or 40 channels. Dual functionality means the mixer can work at front-ofhouse (FOH) or in the stage monitor position. GRP/Aux Mode switches allow the user to select any combination of up to 16 aux sends and up to eight subgroups. All consoles include four dual stereo channels in addition to the channel count and feature four-band EQ plus high pass filter.

ATI Paragon Monitor ($115,000)
A 64-input automated mixing console, the ATI Paragon Monitor is designed specifically to meet the needs of houses of worship. The Paragon offers up to 20 stereo monitor mixing capability and four bands of parametric EQ on each input. Each channel has a variable direct out that can be either stereo or dual mono. ATI installed its patented compressor and a parametric noise gate, while Uptown Automation supplied fader and mute automation.

X-VCA (Starting at $19,000)
Crest’s X-VCA live sound mixing console is offered in 24, 32, 40 or 48 mono input channels, plus 4 stereo line only input modules. Each mono channel includesa variable high pass filter and four band fullyparametric EQ with high and low frequencies switchable to bell-shaped curves. Parametric output EQ and adjustable RMS limiters are included on mono and stereo outputs. The console offers VCA control of input channels and analog sub groups, plus linked stereo dynamics, including compression, limiting and gating, on all subgroups.

D5 Live ($173,756)
DiGiCo’s D5 Live digital mixing console is available with a choice of 56 or 96 inputs. Forty internal buses can be configured as mono or stereo auxiliaries and mono or stereo surround buses. The mixer provides 24 VCA-style control groups, and inputs can be swapped between physical faders and groups of faders. One-touch basic setups for FOH or monitor mixing offer maximum versatility. The D5 Live uses four LCD touchscreens to provide one-touch access to the console’s many features, and a real-time EQ curve for added ease of use.

PSX Series (Starting at $1788)
EV’s says its PSX mixers offer tour-grade power, studio-quality effects and heavy-duty durability with the added benefit of ease of use and portability. Digital signal processing, dynamic limiters, Neutrik in/out connectors and Alps faders are a few features of the PSX. Two models are available: the PSX600 with 300 W/channel at 4 ohms; 150 W/channel at 8 ohms, six mic and two stereo line input channels and three-band EQ on each channel, and the PSX1000 with 500 W/channel at 4 ohms; 250 W/channel at 8 ohms, 10 mic and four stereo line input channels and 3-band EQ with sweepable mids on mono inputs. Both feature two separate 18-bit digital effects processors with 100 programs.

COMPACT Sy40 (Starting at $42,300)
Housed in the same chassis and featuring the same footprint as Innova SON’s Compact Live mixer, the Compact Sy40 digital mixing console for live performance offers 40 input channels and 27 mix buses. The Sy40’s modular architecture allows users to configure the physical I/O for each event. As a standalone console, the mixer supports 40 inputs and 16 outputs through 47 faders: 32, including eightstereo, for the 40 input channels, 12 stereo mix buses, plus three for the mono LRM/C masters.

Offered at a lower price point than the company’s Heritage line, the Midas Legend 3000 live sound mixing console includes XL4 preamps and XL3 EQ for high quality sound. The semi-modular console contains 12 aux sends, which can be used individually as monitor or FOH effects sends. Two separate sets of controls let users run two separate mixes easily.

The Soundcraft Series TWO, a compact live sound console, is available in 24, 32 and 40 mono channel frame sizes, with two stereo line inputs on each model. An integral meterbridge provides input and output metering on LED bar graphs. A variable frequency high-pass filter with separate in/out switch is available on each channel, along with four-band EQ with two sweepable mids and EQ in/out switch. Eight mono Auxes each have Pre/Post fader switching in pairs, and a Pre/Post EQ switch, while eight group busses are routable in pairs, plus left, right and mono.
