Jands Vista T2 Consoles Supplied for Willow Creek Community Church

Chicago-based Willow Creek Community Church has purchased two Jands Vista T2 lighting consoles. Willow Creek was named ‘the most influential church in America’ by The Church Report in 2006 and has provided resources, training, and encouragement to more than 11,000 like-minded member churches from 90 denominations in 45 countries.

Jands

The church currently has five campuses across Chicagoland – the main South Barrington site and regional campuses in Dupage County, McHenry County, North Shore, and Downtown Chicago - whose combined weekend attendance tops 20,000.

All regional campuses receive videocast messages from South Barrington, which are hosted by an onsite campus pastor and complemented by live services mixing together drama, multi-media, and contemporary music.

McHenry County campus Technical Director, Gary Melder, was looking to expand their main auditorium’s production capabilities, so he approached equipment specialists Intelligent Lighting Creations after they had been involved in a large expansion of South Barrington’s technical facilities.

Although Gary wanted to upgrade to a full-scale production lighting console, he was concerned that many of the campus’s lighting team, which is primarily made up of volunteers, would find some of the consoles they considered foreign and daunting.

After considering a number of consoles, a member of the production team at the main South Barrington campus suggested looking at the Jands Vista after seeing the console used during a concert performance recorded in the church’s main auditorium.

A subsequent Vista demo at the campus left Gary and the lighting team immediately sold on the console. Gary commented, “The user interface and timeline editor features just made much more sense than on other consoles we had seen. Many of our team have video and audio experience as well as lighting, so the thought process behind the desk made a lot of sense.”

North Shore campus Technical Director, David Srb, later decided to purchase a T2 for their own facility based on feedback from the McHenry County campus as well as seeing a demo. Both T2 consoles were supplied by Intelligent Lighting Creations.

Whereas other full scale lighting consoles rely on number-crunching to program shows, the Vista utilizes a graphic based interface. As a result, users can work visually and get on with designing better shows, rather than getting distracted by the actual programming process itself. It also makes programming fast and getting to grips with the console a relatively short learning curve.

At last year’s WFX New Product Awards in Dallas, which recognize the most innovative new technology products to hit the worship market, the Vista was voted ‘Best Automated Lighting Controller’ and ‘Best Overall Lighting Product’ .

New Products
Rev Dual American DJ Mega Series LED Stage/Wall Washes

American DJ introduces its new mega series LED washes. The series consists of three LED stage/wall wash-type fixtures: Mega Bar LED, Mega Panel LED color washes, and the ultraviolet Mega Bar UV50. All of them employ 10mm LEDs as their light source.

The Mega Bar LED is a 40-inch-long color bar covered with 252 LEDs (48 red, 108 green, 96 blue). The Mega Panel LED is a rectangular color panel containing 288 LEDs (48 red, 120 green, 120 blue). Both models offer the power of RGB color mixing and work as stage or wall washes. The Mega Bar UV50 is an intense black-light wash powered by 126 ultraviolet LEDs.

One incentive for the switch to LEDs is the color effects and velvety washes that you can achieve via RGB mixing. Users can rely on the Mega Bar LED and Mega Panel LED to project ultra-smooth fields of bright light with rich palettes of color. Another major benefit of LEDs is they consume very little power, resulting in lower electric bills.  They also emit a minimum of heat, so performers can stay cool on stage even under very bright lighting. The LEDs on all mega series fixtures are rated at 100,000 hours, so you can let them run all night, all year long, without ever having to change a single lamp.

The fixtures can be operated in a variety of modes, including program, auto sound-active, master-slave and DMX. Users have a choice of six selectable DMX channel modes with the Mega Bar LED, and seven selectable DMX channel modes with the Mega Panel LED.

Multi-purpose mounting hardware comes with each fixture in the Mega Series, so you can position them a number of ways, depending on what the venue calls for. The Mega Panel LED features a bracket that allows the fixture to be mounted on stage trussing or hung from the ceiling. The two-channel Mega Bar UV50 has special brackets that can be mounted directly to the wall/ceiling or simply set on the floor for ultraviolet wall washing.

The Mega Bar LED and Mega Panel LED both include a color strobe effect, electronic dimming from 0–100%, a wide 40° beam angle for wall washing, and a user-friendly four-button LCD display on the rear panel. The Mega Bar UV50 features a UV flash from slow to fast, full electronic dimming and a 30° beam angle.

Innovason Innovason FM-8VB

Innovason announces their plug-in internal effects module, the FM-8VB. The first of a series of new plug-ins, FM-8VB will ship as standard with all new console packages.  Additionally, the FM-8VB  will be retro-fittable to existing models running the latest version of Sensoft.

Built on original algorithms from VB Audio, the FM8-VB is a powerful 8-in/8-out internal effects module with thirty-two effects engines. With four effects engines installed between each pair of I/Os, all of which are fully configurable to receive the algorithm of your choice, all the I/Os are accessible via the patch grids within Sensoft. From there, you simply have to declare your I/Os as insert points, or to feed your inputs via an aux on the console while using a temporal effect such as reverb, echo, etc.

FM-8VB provides a comprehensive range of effects including a set of natural-sounding reverb effects, modulated delay, chorus, flanger, phasing and tremolo , limiter, harmonics generator, echo and delay (stereo or mono echo, ping-pong, etc.).  It also includes StripTool, a vintage design channel strip with full audio processing capabilities for fast and easy mixing with traditional audio color and feel.

Panasonic 32GB P2 Card
Panasonic 32 GB P2 Memory Card

Panasonic introduces a 32GB P2 solid-state memory card for its line of P2 HD and P2 solid-state camcorders and decks. With the availability of the 32GB P2 card in November, Panasonic will have quadrupled the storage capacity of its solid-state memory card in just this year, providing HD recording time greater than most tape-based and disc-based systems.

Camcorders equipped with the new 32GB P2 card will offer greater recording capacity than tape-based and disc-based systems, and offer the proven benefits of no-moving-parts reliability and fast IT file-based workflow. With five 32GB P2 cards installed, the AJ-HPX3000 and HPX2000 P2 HD camcorders can record for up to two and a half hours (over three hours in 24p) in AVC-Intra 100 or DVCPRO HD and five hours (over six and a half hours in 24p) in AVC-Intra 50 or DVCPRO 50.

Panasonic’s P2 card, consisting of four SD cards, like those now used in digital still cameras, packaged in a die-cast frame that weighs only 0.099 lbs (45 grams). This card has four times the capacity and four times the transfer speed of a single SD card. The P2 card is reusable and connects instantly with laptops and major non-linear editing systems to eliminate the time-consuming task of digitizing.

The P2 card is resistant to impact (up to 1,500G), vibration (up to 15G), shock, dust, and environmental extremes including temperature changes. It operates in temperatures from -4° to 176°F (-20 to 60°C), and can be stored in temperatures from -40° to 176°F (-40 to 80°C). Unlike tapes and discs, the P2 card has no rotating or contact parts. The solid-state P2 memory card can transfer data at speeds up to 640Mbps.
