This past October, Philips Entertainment introduced two new and very exciting LED fixtures at LDI 2015. As part of their Showline family of fixtures, the SL Beam 300FX and the SL Punchlite 200 offer the lighting designer lightweight and high quality components with consistent LED color matching.
Philips Showline luminaires are designed to work seamlessly together to match color, dimming and operation. All Showline models utilize Philips Harmonize calibration technology. Harmonize is a proprietary, advanced LED color matching system, consisting of three correction modules: RGB, RGBW and Cool White/Warm White. This is welcome news as one of the most critical considerations when using LED fixtures is the consistency of LED color from one fixture to another.
The SL Beam 300FX is a new high performance moving head fixture that is relatively tiny compared to other moving lights in its class. It incorporates 19 RGBW LEDs that deliver an intense field of light. Along with its pan and tilt movement, the SL Beam 300FX has a motorized optical system that creates both beam and wash effects. It uses a dual rotating front lens and effect wheel, resulting in a variety of beam and wash effects.
The SL Beam 300FX has an extremely narrow four degree beam and can zoom out to 40 degrees. In addition, all its LED's are individually controlled to allow for some very elaborate lighting effects. The fixture comes with many prerecorded preset effects that utilize this pixel flexibility. The fixture can pan to 540 degrees and tilt to 230 degrees. Its pan and tilt are extremely fast: 2.5 seconds for full pan and 1.5 seconds for full tilt. This fixture will be quite useful for very fast movement effects.
Although the SL Beam 300FX is very small, it is also very bright. It is rated at 4500 lumens with a color-rendering index (CRI) of 90 (RGBW). It is DMX-512A(RDM) controlled with local LCD control with Master / Slave options. Its modes include HSIC, RGBW 8 bit, RGBW 16 bit, Simple 8 bit, and Pattern modes. The SL Beam 300FX can be powered from 100-240VAC, only consumes 350W of electricity, and weighs only 14.5 kgs.
The SL Punchlite 220 is a fixed LED wash fixture that features an 8-40 degree motorized zoom. It is also outdoor IP65 rated, allowing the user to create stunning LED effects in environments not normally friendly to automated lighting fixtures. The SL Punchlite 220 uses 18 high-powered RGBW LEDs with a lumen rating of 3500 and a CRI of 90 (RGBW).
Like the SL Beam 300FX, you can configure the SL Punchlite 220 remotely through RDM, or locally through the Philips Showline LCD menu. This allows you to bypass third party controllers and run the SL Punchlight 220 from its internal control panel.
The SL Punchlite 220 has a flexible double yoke for floor standing or hanging locations. It also has an accessory slot that allows the applications of third party beam shaper products. The fixture incorporates passive cooling, which renders the SL Punchlite 220 virtually silent from fan noise. The SL Punchlite 220 is controlled via DMX-512A(RDM) with local LCD and Master / Slave control. Its modes include HSIC, RGBW 8 bit and RGBW 16 bit. The SL Punchlite 220 is powered by 100-240VAC and consumes only 230W.
The Philips SL Beam 300FX and SL Punchlite 220 are small, powerful lighting fixtures that should prove to be quite useful for the worship market, especially where permanent mounting applications are the norm. You can hang them and leave them, allowing for maximum trouble free and flexible lighting effects. Plus with Philips Harmonize color system, consistent colors should be assured across several models of fixtures. Finally, the hardware profiles of these fixtures are quite handsome and unobtrusive, making them ideal for low ceilings common in many houses of worship. We are looking forward to getting our hands on a few of these to test in real–world conditions.
