It could be a simple as the difference as the interaction between introverts and extraverts, but the source of the tension between worship leaders and technical directors is likely to be much more complicated. Inextricably linked, the two positions couldn't be much more different. The worship leader is a very public position, the tech director operates in a behind-the-scenes world. The tech director's role is one that relies much more on interaction with finite electronic systems. It's those moments when it's "man and machine" that the tech director often feels the most freedom and contribution to the worship service. The worship leader? Well, you get the point.
This year's WFX event will include a new set of events with a new goal --- that of uniting the senior leadership, worship/music director and technical personnel in ways that will help their relationship and ability to collaborate in a healthy manner. Entitled, Unite, the classes will be taught by pastors, worship leaders and tech directors in ways that relay their deep passion for worship, along with their real-world experience in their home churches.
"Relationship and Influence: Worship Leaders and Technical Directors" is the title of this short article. It's also the title of a class to be taught at this year's Unite event in Atlanta. Worship pastors Thomas Miller and Walker Beach will join with Technical Director David Leuschner --- all of them from Gateway Church, Southlake, Texas --- to share several key elements that affect the relationship between worship leaders and technical directors in the church. They will touch on a variety of things such as how to improve communication and build rapport, not to mention have fun working together. In addition, they will give you practical steps that you can implement in your team as well as in your own leadership.
Other similar topics you'll experience at this year's Unite event in Atlanta, include: "The Church in Transition: Re-inventing Ourselves for a New Generation" and "The Worship Service Makeover." But we've mentioned just three of the over 150 sessions at WFX designed to help you and your church with the tools, technologies and techniques that help maximize ministry.
And starting at WFX in Atlanta, September 19-21, the Unite experience moves on to three additional sites across the Midwest and Northeast. Unite will be held in St. Louis at Church on the Rock, September 24-25. The event moves to Pittsburgh, PA at The Bible Chapel, October 1-2. Unite for 2012 wraps up in Boston at Liberty Church October 8-9.
