Immersive projections in one of the themed galleries at Delight Damyang experiential art exhibition.

Although an international art display may seem, at first glance, to have little connection to helping physical churches bring Bible settings and stories to life, think again—and test the imagination.
In a Damyang, South Korea, media art exhibit in February 2023, designers used nearly 90 Christie 1DLP laser projectors to bring history and culture to life in the ancient city at the southwestern tip of the Korean Peninsula.
The exhibit, known as Delight Damyang, is the latest under the “Delight” series of experiential art exhibitions conceptualized by international media production firm Design Silver Fish, specialists in space direction and media content design.
The permanent showcase consisted of 11 themed galleries inspired by folktales from Damyang, which have captured the hearts and minds of children for over a millennium. Among the highlights of the exhibit are mesmerizing laser projection displays powered by Christie’s D13WU2-HS, DWU1075-GS and DWU880-GS models.

In all three laser-illuminated models, Christie has eliminated the need for lamp and filter replacements, providing 20,000 hours of low-cost operation. In addition, wireless connectivity, a small footprint, low weight, whisper-quiet operation and a full range of lenses make the models ideal for demanding, high-use applications, such as those found in contemporary churches.
According to representatives from the manufacturer, certain models come with onboard Christie Twist warping and blending software, as well as Christie Mystique automated camera-based alignment tools, designed to make setup, alignment, recalibration and maintenance of multi-projector systems quick and easy.
“Delight Damyang is the largest media art exhibition in Korea to date, and we are proud to deploy an array of state-of-the-art technologies—including large-scale projections—to realistically showcase thousand-year-old mysteries and legends of Damyang,” says Gyong Tae Hong, CEO of Design Silver Fish. “Visitors [are] enthralled by the highly immersive and lifelike visuals … [created] in seven themed galleries that seek to reinterpret the rich ecological and cultural fabric of this symbolic location. These high-performance projectors are a perfect match with the contents we have specially created.”
While Hong says the media production company was familiar with the immersive display and story-enriching capabilities of the D20WU-HS model, “this is the first time that we have deployed the new DWU880-GS for our media art exhibition. Its performance and operability in high-use environments has certainly met our expectations. The included warping and blending tools have also enabled us to set up multi-projector arrays quickly and reliably.”
Visitors to the Delight Damyang exhibition experienced amazingly detailed images displayed on numerous large screens and surfaces by the Christie HS and GS Series laser projectors, which were fitted discreetly overhead in seven galleries that were themed and transported through laser projection.
In one massive gallery lit by 36 D13WU2-HS projectors, Design Silver Fish’s team created an especially intriguing immersive environment, where an elevated platform allowed visitors to view and experience the gallery’s breathtaking visuals from a higher perspective.
In another gallery, Yongso Waterfall in Damyang’s Gamagol Valley was convincingly recreated using nine DWU1075-GS and eight DWU880-GS projectors, complete with burbling audio effects. In addition, motion tracking sensors enabled visitors to interact with the virtual waterfall by “splitting” the pouring water apart to generate fascinating water patterns on surfaces within the gallery.
Other crowd-pleasing laser projection was achieved with five DWU880-GS and 12 D13WU2-HS projectors, respectively, to display eye-catching imagery designed to evoke a sense of pride and belonging in the small, beautiful city of Damyang.
Paul Lee, sales manager for Korea, Enterprise, Christie, says, “The enduring history, culture and ecology of Damyang have been magnificently showcased in this media art exhibition, meticulously put together by Design Silver Fish. We are thrilled that our HS and GS Series projectors have been used to deliver stunning visuals and [generate] excitement among visitors.”
