In honor of Earth Day’s 50th anniversary, Earth Day Network and Earth Day Italia report that Pope Francis celebrated Earth Day with a message to the global community. His message? One of hope for the planet.
As part of the Earth Day celebration, and in collaboration with Earth Day Italia, world-renowned musical artists Zucchero “Sugar” Fornaciari and Bono sang “Canta La Vita,” adapted from Bono’s “Let Your Love Be Known,” to Pope Francis and Earth Day. Bono and Zucchero performed in front of Rome’s Colosseum, "lit up in blue in an empty eternal city," as described by Pierluigi Sassi, president of Earth Day Italia. The final part of the song merges the voices of both artists to launch a worldwide message of union. Find the video at Canta La Vita.
“This celebration of Earth Day by Pope Francis is one that we know will galvanize the world to support our planet,” says Kathleen Rogers, president of Earth Day. “We are so moved by Zucchero and Bono’s musical collaboration of ‘Canta La Vita’ and we know everyone around the globe will be united and touched by this emotional song. The outpouring of celebration for [the] 50th anniversary of Earth Day from around the globe is like no other."
