A new building meant fresh options for The Life Church's Houston Levee campus in Collierville, Tenn. The facility recently installed a video wall made up of Vanguard Rhodium P4 LED cabinets. Pro Sound & Video, an AV firm with offices ini Florida and California, oversaw the integration of the new equipment.
“We’ve always wanted a large video display,” explains Brian Pitre, technical director at The Life Church. “When we were doing the new building, we figured that this was the perfect opportunity.”
Change of vision
Originally, the team at The Life Church had planned on selecting a video projection system due to the lower up-front costs. “But when [we started] working on what pricing was going to be like, we eventually decided that our best plan would be to make the jump to LED technology instead,” Pitre says. “The picture quality is a whole lot better, and it’s more versatile––when using stage lighting, you don’t have to worry about the space you need for projectors … [and] LED technology creates its own light, so you don’t have to worry about stage lighting washing out the image.” There are also the concerns associated with the projectors themselves, he adds, highlighting the need for expensive lamp replacements as time goes on.

During the construction of the Houston Levee campus, the church needed to reduce the amount of space dedicated to the backstage area to cut down on building costs. This resulted in a reduced stage thrust, Pitre explains. “At its deepest, it’s about 31 feet, [and with] projection, the key lighting at the front of the stage could easily wash out any kind of screens at the back of the stage,” he says. “With LED, we don’t have to be concerned with that. Images look great, and they’re really bright.”
