Jose Cano Rivera, Worship Pastor, Centro Cristiano Restauración
Jose Cano Rivera is a worship pastor at Centro Cristiano Restauración, an influential Hispanic church in Orlando, Fla. For many years, Rivera was an audiovisual manager in the production industry, working as a sound engineer and producer in studios for many Latin Christian artists. Then in 2003, he became a dedicated pastor.
As his church’s production demands have increased, Rivera has been exploring Dante integrated mixing consoles for their efficiency. He recently updated his set up with the Yamaha TF Rack compact rack-mount digital mixer with Dante connectivity.
With Dante capability available within the TF Rack, Rivera takes advantage of the opportunity to send the channels in a digital form to the FOH console. “Since both the TF Rack and the FOH TF console have slot to fit a Dante card to send data to the FOH TF via CAT5e, I can avoid cable noise and reduce the number of analog snake cables in my stage area.”
Additionally, Rivera discovered the console’s ability to conduct a virtual soundcheck via Dante’s virtual soundcard audio interface. During services, Rivera groups the channels of his sequences by dividing them into loops, vocals, instruments, bass and click for better channel management. These channels are assigned to DCAs for better control and a digital output to send via Dante to FOH. He says, “I figured out the TF could read the inputs and outputs of my DAW. As soon as I connected the TF Rack to my PC computer, it immediately recognized it as an audio device. The sound response and processing capacity I have available for playback of my sequences are impressive.”
In the past, an Aviom System had been used to create personal monitor mixes of the FOH mix, drums, SEQ, vocals, guitars, bass, keys, director and click. “Using the TF Rack, I receive those mixes through Dante now to create my own monitor system, assigning them to channels in the TF Rack,” Rivera explains. “This gives me the opportunity to remove my Aviom device and create my personal monitor mix in my area. Musicians can use the Monitor Mix app to control their own mixes independent of FOH via the phone app.”
Rivera says those working in the church have been very excited with the console and are spreading the word. “Several musicians and pastors have come to see how the system works and sounds. I’m a big fan of the sound and strongly believe in its results, enough to recommend to others in the field.”
