Phew, I'll bet more than a few of you are happy you don't have to do “that” every weekend.
While Christmas events can be extremely rewarding, for most church techs they are also the most demanding productions of the year. It's a time when you and your team will stretch—both technically and personally—to pull off some of the most important production work you've ever done.
The Church Production staff hopes this year's events turn out to be the most well-attended and impactful experiences your church has ever produced—events that will help change lives; events your congregation will choose to discuss with their friends and neighbors throughout the holidays and beyond; events people will be happy to invite others to attend next year.
Over the past few months, we've published a number of technical- and ministry-related articles in print and online designed to help our readers with advice and guidance on a variety of topics during this demanding time of year.
As the year draws to a chaotic close, it's time to take stock, regroup and reassess while the demands of Christmas are still fresh in your minds. Over the next week or so, take a few minutes to ask your team what could be done to make next year's Christmas events more effective, smoother running and with higher production quality. You'll likely get a few responses that will surprise you … in a good way.
Besides getting good suggestions on how to make technical and logistical improvements, you'll likely also be surprised at who responds to your questions. If you dig into your responses, you'll likely discover some people may have been holding back; people who are brimming over with ideas; people who are “leaders in waiting.”
For more on this subject, we strongly encourage you to read our Back Talk column by Matt Perkins on page 80. Perkins quotes a source as saying, “We can't afford to pay people to do the work of the ministry; we can only afford to pay people who will equip others to do the work of the ministry.” It's a profound and inspiring statement and one that I challenge you to adopt for the New Year.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
Best regards,
