Leading with a vision, Bill Swaringim (Technical Arts Director, The Crossing, St. Louis) gathered a small group of church technical directors to form, in July 2009, the Church Technical Directors Round Table (CTDRT). This group was established as a community to serve full-time technical ministry leaders. In April 2010, the CTDRT launched an online community that focused on the part-time and volunteer technical artists called Church Technical Artists Network (CTANonline). Both online communities are based on fostering relationships among their members, facilitating peer learning, and encouraging synergy through the sharing of ideas.
Today, Church Technical Leaders continues to be a resource led by full-time church technical leaders.
As Swaringim watched these two resources develop, and as CTDRT hosted more than 15 local and regional Round Table events, he saw that God's vision was bigger than he realized. Swaringim invited Dennis Choy (Production Pastor, North Coast Church, Vista, Calif.) and Jeff VanderGiessen (former Production Technology Director, Mars Hill Church, Seattle) to join him in visioning and leading to better serve the members of CTDRT and CTANonline. Together they have invested many hours of praying and planning, structuring the organization and planning initiatives for this community of leaders and artists. This resulted in bringing both resources under one organization—and Church Technical Leaders was born.
Today, Church Technical Leaders continues to be a resource led by full-time church technical leaders. We will pursue our mission of fostering relationships among members, equipping leaders by facilitating peer learning, and encouraging synergy through the sharing of ideas while wrapping our arms around serving the local church through the technical arts.
