ADJ announces the immediate availability of the new AX2 lighting console. This professional, hardware-based control system combines command-line-driven Onyx software with a tactile control surface designed to allow users to create complex looks quickly and confidently.
“With integrated processing, advanced creative tools, and a robust, tour-ready build, it delivers the flexibility and performance demanded by modern productions,” the announcement states.
Developed in partnership with ADJ’s sister company, Obsidian Control Systems, the AX2 console was officially unveiled to the industry at LDI in Las Vegas last December and is now ready for deployment to live productions, tours, houses of worship, theaters, clubs, and permanent installations.
“Designed to give users the power to bring their vision to life and tell their story, it is both intuitive and capable. Featuring an integrated touchscreen, premium physical controls, a powerful media engine (DYLOS) , and up to 32 universes of output, it delivers the speed, precision, and creative freedom that today’s lighting professionals demand,” the release continue.
Hardware-Based Control
At its core, the AX2 is a purpose-built hardware controller designed as a responsive, tactile control surface engineered for professional environments. Ten quality 60mm playback faders, each with four function-assignable buttons, responsive digital encoders, a secondary 3.5-inch touch screen, and dedicated function buttons designed for confident, hands-on operation. A bright 15.6” full HD multi-touch display — which folds down for protection in transit — delivers clear visual feedback, while the chassis is designed for reliability on the road and in fixed installations.
“Powered by Obsidian Control Systems’ Onyx software, the AX2 offers a flexible and dynamic, command-line-driven environment that supports both fast programming and deep parameter control,” the release states. “An industrial motherboard loaded with an Intel i5 Hexa-Core CPU paired with 16 GB DDR4 RAM and a 500 GB NVMe M.2 storage drive ensure ample processing capacity. The console can output up to 32 universes of DMX, and connectivity is extensive, including four 5-pin DMX ports, dual Gigabit Ethernet ports for Art-Net, sACN, and ONYX X-Net, plus full MIDI and SMPTE support — making the AX2 ideal for timecoded shows and multimedia environments.”
As production demands grow, the AX2 can scale accordingly, integrating into larger control environments while maintaining its streamlined, all-in-one design. The console is also fully compatible with the NX P playback wing from Obsidian Control Systems as well as any Windows USB touchscreen (supporting up to two additional 4K touchscreens).
Integrated Dylos Media Engine with 5 Zones of Pixel Control
AX2 features built-in DYLOS Media Engine, which provides five zones of pixel control directly within the Onyx environment. This is designed to allow users to create vibrant pixel-mapped effects, layered visual content, and media-driven looks without a separate media server.
Professional Learning Resources Available Online
For users new to Onyx — or those looking to deepen their expertise — a comprehensive library of online training materials and tutorial videos is freely available. From quick-start guides to advanced deep dives on programming techniques, these resources are made to get users running quickly while unlocking the full power of the platform.
The AX2 is ADJ’s most advanced lighting console to date.“The AX2 is a very significant and exciting addition to ADJ’s product portfolio,” explains Alfred Gonzales, ADJ USA’s Director of Sales. “As ADJ has continued to grow in the production, rental, and integration markets with increasingly sophisticated lighting solutions, our customers have been looking for a higher level of control to match. Through this partnership with our sister company, Obsidian Control Systems, we’re now able to offer a powerful, all-in-one DMX control solution that meets the needs of venues and production companies. The response we received when the console was unveiled at LDI was extremely positive, and we’re thrilled to now have the AX2 shipping and excited to get it into the hands of customers.”
The AX2 is shipping now worldwide.
