“Building upon the award-winning legacy of the company's best-selling DP7, seven-piece drum kit solution, the DP7X delivers a complete, professional-grade microphone lineup designed to capture the full transient detail, impact, and spatial depth of a standard five-piece drum kit,” according to the announcement.
D6X Kick Drum Microphone
The centerpiece of DP7X is the D6X dynamic kick drum microphone, replacing the original D6. Designed, machined, assembled, and tested by Audix in the USA, the D6X utilizes Audix’s VLM (Very Low Mass) diaphragm for transient response and natural, distortion-free sound capture under high sound pressure levels (≥144 dB SPL).
The D6X features a recessed, tool-free switch that enables engineers to sculpt the low-end character of the kick drum across three distinct frequency response profiles on the fly. Deep, which retains 100% of the classic, pre-shaped D6 sonic performance, delivering a modern, deep sound that immediately cuts through the mix. Balanced, which delivers a more traditional kick drum voice by adding presence in the mids and upper mid-range while preserving the original D6 sonic impact. And Natural, which unlocks a more linear response with adjusted high-end roll-off and fuller mid-range, which is optimized for capturing a organic, natural acoustic character or experimenting on percussion, bass cabinets, and other low-frequency sources.

Beyond the kick drum, the DP7X combines a matched array of specialized microphones designed to create a cohesive, professional drum sound:
The i5 Snare Microphone: A dynamic cardioid microphone that manages close-range transients to capture the fundamental depth and distinctive "crack" of the snare.
Two D2 Rack Tom Microphones: Compact dynamic hypercardioid microphones featuring VLM Type B technology designed for the attack and warm overtones of rack toms with off-axis isolation.
The D4 Floor Tom Microphone: A dynamic hypercardioid microphone utilizing VLM Type D technology, offering an extended low-frequency response down to 40 Hz to capture the deep, fundamental resonance of floor toms.
Two ADX51 Overhead Microphones: Pre-polarized condenser microphones featuring 14mm gold-sputtered diaphragms and cardioid pickup patterns, designed overhead to add spatial dimension, smooth cymbals, and a phase-coherent stereo image of the entire kit.
Updated Nylon Case and Accessories
The DP7X is designed for heavy touring with a newly styled nylon carrying case. The case offers improved shock resistance, portability, and interior organization. Additionally, the package comes complete with professional mounting hardware and accessories, including four DVICE spring-loaded rim-mount clamps, three DCLIP heavy-duty mic clips, one MC1 nylon clip, and two WS81C foam windscreens for the overhead condensers.
