Coda Audio is introducing the first model in its new Force range, the ViForce, a compact 4-way cardioid line array system featuring 3D adaptable directivity control. Designed from the ground up, it combines new drivers, advanced materials, and Coda’s new patented technologies — including Wideband Cardioid.
“Wideband Cardioid is a paradigm shift in pattern control and sonic integrity brought about through a period of intensive R&D at Coda Audio,” the announcement states. “This unique, Patent Pending technology comes to market first in ViForce and its slimline partner subwoofer, the Sub Force 35.”
Coda line array system elements have been used in cardioid configurations since the launch of ViRay in 2012. “The introduction of ViForce and Sub Force 35 brings new levels of cardioid control, combined with exceptional linear phase response, to a single box cardioid system,” the release continues. “Conventional one box cardioid systems often suffer from limited low frequency extension, cancellation over a narrow bandwidth, poor phase response, and reduction of cancellation at full SPL. Wideband Cardioid overcomes these issues without compromising the audience experience, in a system which can be deployed anywhere from a 500-capacity theatre to a 10,000-capacity arena.”
This new pattern control technology can be used in two modes – Maximum SPL, or Maximum rejection. In Maximum SPL mode, a slightly reduced level of cancellation to the rear gives maximum energy to the audience – for where arrays are flown further off stage or for DJ gigs. In Maximum Rejection, up to 90% of the SPL at the rear of the array is cancelled out, for shows with orchestras, choirs, or when multiple open microphones are in use.
ViForce is a 4-way, bi-amplifed line array element, featuring 2 x 8” LF drivers, 2 x side-mounted 6.5” drivers, and Coda’s DDP Mid & High frequency driver. It includes all Coda Audio’s patented technologies, including Dynamic Airflow Cooling (DAC) technology for the elimination of power compression, InstaFit couplers for easy alteration between 90°, 120°, or 105° asymmetric horizontal dispersion, and Coda’s rigging.
Sub Force 35 benefits from the same technologies. It is a slimline 3 x 15” cardioid subwoofer with level and frequency response equivalent to a standard 2 x 18”. The implementation of Wideband Cardioid in the sub is such that it can be placed directly against a wall with no need to mute the rear driver – it contributes to the output of the whole system through side-mounted ports, maintaining its full output capability.
The new products were launched at this year’s ISE show in Barcelona. Visitors can talk with Coda Audio staff at Booth 7A100 and attend demonstrations in Demo Room D8.
