DPA combines two interesting components into one in their new d:fine In-Ear Broadcast Headset Microphone: an omnidirectional headset mic with an in-ear monitor (a directional mic is an option). The new unit incorporates two thin cables, one for the in-ear monitor and the other for the microphone, to achieve a clean look that is designed to give the user a feeling that is unrestricted. DPA offers single- and dual-ear mounts that further aid the user's comfort and preference. The in-ear monitor can be single or dual as well. Adapters for most professional wireless belt packs offer flexibility in the IEM and wireless transmitter market. Headset color choices are black, brown, or beige. In ear color choices are a non-reflecting black or silver.
While it's specifically designed for on-air broadcast applications, its feature set and low visual profile make it an interesting product for the church market. Several possible applications immediately come to mind. The first would be for an actor that needs in-ears. Almost any musical or theatrical type production where a headset or lav mic is used could benefit from the new d:fine In-Ear Broadcast Headset Microphone.
Another obvious application would be for the pastor. By having the ability to communicate to the person on stage talking, last minute information can be communicated in a non-disruptive way. A service producer could correct any misinformation given by the greeter in the moment that it is happening. Also if the pastor asks a question to any staff while on stage an answer can be communicated quickly without the familiar yell from the back of the room that you may be accustomed too.
Third would be for a singer in the worship band who has his hands full playing an instrument. DPA says this current version was not specifically designed for musical applications, but it certainly could be used that way. Another version for singing vocalist applications is rumored to be in development.
We'll have a full review of the DPA d:fine In-Ear Broadcast Headset Microphone in the near future. I'm very interested to hear what pastors think of the feature set. The new unit is available now, contact your local DPA dealer for more info.
