Iconyx Compact's most notable feature is its ability is to steer broadband frequencies vertically. The optional -RD1 versions offer a Dante digital audio input jack, which allows for system control with Crestron controllers.
Some venues require clear sound from speakers that can't be a visual distraction, especially house of worship venues where room aesthetics can affect worship. Recognizing the need for speakers that should be heard and not seen, Renkus-Heinz introduced the new Iconyx Compact Series wall-mounted speakers.
The first Renkus-Heinz Iconyx speakers arrived on the market in 2006, and were quickly recognized for delivering high-quality sound from compact enclosures. Whereas the original Iconyx speakers had 4” coaxial drivers, the new Iconyx Compact speakers utilize a vertical column of 3" full-range drivers. This allows Iconyx Compact to achieve a 40% size reduction. At less than 4.5" wide, the Iconyx Compact's narrow profile allow the speakers to better blend into the architecture of even the most particular venues.
Manufactured in the US, the Iconyx Compact Series is now shipping directly from the Southern California warehouse and is available in black, white and custom colors.
The Iconyx Compact Series consists of four models: ICC12/3, ICC24/3, ICC36/3 and ICC48/3. The speakers have 12, 24, 36 and 48 drivers and amplifier channels respectively, and onboard digital signal processing. Cabinet heights range from 39 1/2" to 157". This processing includes eight-bands of parametric EQ, high and low shelving filters, high- and low-pass filters and delay. The speakers can also store nine DSP presets, recalled by software.
Iconyx Compact's most notable feature is its ability is to steer broadband frequencies vertically. Renkus-Heinz RHAON II beam-steering allows software control of three main aspects of the speaker's energy radiation pattern. First, the acoustic "center" of the speaker can sit anywhere along its vertical axis. Second, the effective vertical dispersion can be made narrower or wider to best cover the depth of the listening area. Third, the vertical dispersion pattern can be angled +/- 30 degrees relative to the angle of the speaker. We look forward to testing all these unique capabilities.
Iconyx Compact’s horizontal dispersion is broad, at 120 degrees below 3 kHz and 90 degrees above. With 40 watts per amplifier, overall max SPL appears generous on the spec sheet. Maximum SPL ranges from 94 dB to 97 dB (at 30 meters) depending on speaker model. Frequency response of Iconyx Compact is 135 Hz to 17 kHz (+/- 3 dB). For full-range music reproduction, a subwoofer is required.
Offering the same basic speaker in four sizes may seem indulgent, but there's a reason for the range. Increasing the number of drivers does more than just make the speaker taller— it also affects the lowest frequency that the speaker can steer as well as the maximum throw distance. With 12 drivers, the ICC12/3 can steer frequencies above 800 Hz and cover around 60 ft. With 48 drivers in the ICC48/3, steering frequency drops to 200 Hz and coverage extends to 240 ft. For venues with tough acoustics, being able to steer lower frequencies can offer significant improvement in intelligibility.
For connectivity, Iconyx Compact has analog inputs and outputs, AES-3 digital audio input and a pair of ethernet/RHAON II jacks for software control over the speaker's parameters. The -RD1 option for all four sizes in the ICC Series adds a Dante digital audio input jack, which allows for system control with Crestron controllers.
Manufactured in the US, the Iconyx Compact Series is now shipping directly from the Southern California warehouse and is available in black, white and custom colors with an optional weather-resistant finish to provide the sound solution for any house of worship venue. We're eager to put these new Renkus-Heinz speakers to the test.
