K-array, an Italian audio solutions manufacturer, announces a step forward in AV-over-IP integration. Through a software update, its full line of Kommander amplifiers is now NDI-enabled, “…making K-array the first professional audio brand to natively embed the Network Device Interface (NDI) protocol directly into its amplifiers. No external gateways, licenses or additional hardware required,” the announcement states.
NDI is a low-latency, IP-based protocol capable of transmitting synchronized audio, video, and metadata over standard networks. “While widely adopted in the video broadcast and live production sectors, its expansion into the audio domain marks a strategic evolution, one now being driven by K-array’s adoption,” the announcement continues.
“Bringing NDI into our amplifiers, at no cost to the user, demonstrates how our software-defined architecture is ready to embrace every evolution of AV-over-IP,” confirms Alessandro Tatini, CEO of K-array. “It’s a concrete example of how innovation drives real-world value for our customers.”
With this update, K-array amplifiers now support native, bidirectional AV-over-IP workflows via their Linux-based Oskar OS. Thousands of Kommander units already in the field can become NDI-capable through a free firmware update, ensuring both future-ready performance and zero added cost for existing clients.
“This integration showcases K-array’s ability to generate software value around its core business of amplification and offer our clients a competitive difference,” says Tatini.
The announcement precedes a live preview at InfoComm, where K-array’s NDI-enabled technology solutions will be demonstrated at the NDI booth (#3780).
K-array’s amplifier architecture now benefits from the power of a unified IP backbone designed to simplify cabling, reduce infrastructure costs, and streamline setup for system integrators.
“K-array’s commitment to native NDI integration represents a turning point for the audio industry,” says Roberto Musso, Technical Director at NDI. “We’ve always envisioned NDI as a unified bridge for both video and audio across IP networks. Seeing this vision realized in K-array’s amplifiers, without compromise, without additional hardware, signals the beginning of a smarter, more efficient future for professional AV."
