Shure announces WaveTool 4, the latest evolution of its professional audio monitoring and listening software. Designed for theater, live sound, broadcast, and houses of worship, WaveTool 4 enables teams to monitor, replay, and verify live audio across their entire system in real time. By combining direct listening, instant replay, and team collaboration, WaveTool 4 is designed to allow engineers to troubleshoot issues faster.
WaveTool 4 builds on the platform’s listening-first foundation with new capabilities that expand visibility across complex productions. New features include full-system Global Instant Replay with up to 30 minutes of history, expanded channel capacity, a customizable user interface, and enhanced collaboration tools to give teams the context to investigate unexpected events, coordinate responses, and maintain awareness throughout every production.
“WaveTool has changed how we monitor productions, quite fundamentally. The ability to roam freely backstage, working the wigs, makeup, and costume teams, with the chat function going into that as well. It’s that set of tools that enables the team to accurately do their job,” says Dominic Bilkey, Head of Sound & Video for the National Theatre in London.
“We had a clock sync issue, and everyone thought it was RF. I already knew it wasn’t me because I heard it, and I could also see it. WaveTool has given me certainty and strength in the way I operate. It’s really solidified my purpose on the team,” says Connor Duckworth, RF Engineer for BurnaBoy.
“Unlike traditional monitoring tools that rely solely on looking at the meters, WaveTool 4 allows engineers to listen directly to live audio channels while maintaining visibility across wired and wireless sources,” the announcement states. “The platform brings audio, replay, alerts, and communication into a single shared environment, turning monitoring into a common reference point for the entire production team.”
Shure lists enhancements in WaveTool 4:
- Global Instant Replay rewinds the entire system with up to 30 minutes of history, allowing teams to review intermittent issues, confirm exactly what happened, and resolve problems with confidence.
- Support for up to 192 channels and eight concurrent users gives larger acts the scale to monitor more sources while keeping teams connected.
- A fully scalable interface that lets engineers zoom, resize, and prioritize channels to match productions of any size.
- Intelligent mic issue detection identifies problems the moment they occur while filtering out expected production sounds, reducing false alarms and minimizing unnecessary alerts.
- A redesigned communication experience with chat, image sharing, reactions, and voice notes built directly into the monitoring workflow.
- Flexible licensing options, including subscription and perpetual licenses, to support touring, project-based, and permanent installations, all managed in ShureCloud.
“WaveTool 4 is designed to support audio teams throughout the entire production lifecycle, from setup and mic checks through live performance and post-event review. By bringing listening, replay, and collaboration together, WaveTool 4 gives teams the confidence to make informed decisions at every stage of a production,” the release continues.
“[Before, when] you noticed something wrong, the tools you had to find [the issue] were quite limited. WaveTool changes that. If you want to skip the part of being lucky, you can just have WaveTool. Peace of mind, that’s half of the benefit,” says Alexandre Dugas, System Engineer & Crew Chief at Solotech.
The software also expands access to WaveTool through subscription licensing managed via ShureCloud, to lower barriers for independent engineers and new users and continue to support long-term installations with perpetual licenses.
