From entertainment to education, work, and even religious worship, high quality video is now the expectation among modern consumers. To satisfy this demand, many facilities are investing in professional-grade video production systems that can be used to produce and live stream events, as well as post-produced materials.
The Star Theatre in Singapore recently tapped Systems Integrator Broadcast Engineering Services (BES) to modernize the venue’s video ingest pipeline with a flexible recording solution powered by AJA I/O technologies and ToolsOnAir capture software. BES deployed a Mac Studio-based system combining AJA Io X3 and Io 4K Plus I/O devices with ToolsOnAir’s just:in mac software.

Together, the technologies provide a streamlined platform for capturing multiple HD and 4K sources simultaneously during live events. The setup enables The Star’s AV team to support both intimate performances and large-scale productions, by simply routing signals through AJA devices and ingesting them directly into just:in mac.
“Having a single interface where The Star’s team can manage multiple concurrent camera recordings has been a game changer,” shared BES Project Director Brian Li Chuan. “Previously, the team had to juggle multiple PCs. Now, one person can monitor, start, stop, and pause recordings across all channels from a single screen.”
The venue’s in-house camera system includes up to 15 cameras, which can be flexibly deployed based on each event’s requirements. Clients bringing their own gear can easily patch into the control room, where signals are routed through the AJA hardware. Once recorded, files are handed over promptly, with the ability to choose formats like Apple ProRes, MP4, and more.
Shen Li of The Star praised the ease of use and speed the system delivers, saying, “The GUI is so intuitive, and the Thunderbolt connectivity on the AJA devices gives us great performance.”
For church production teams looking to streamline multi-camera recording and prepare for future resolutions, The Star’s workflow offers a strong model. With a unified, cost-efficient solution built on reliable AJA hardware and scalable software, teams can support everything from weekly services to large seasonal productions.
