Leadership at Urbancrest Church, a Southern Baptist church located in Lebanon, Ohio, faced two major challenges as they tried to design a new audio system. First, the building’s weight limitations made traditional line arrays impractical without costly structural modifications. Secondly, achieving full coverage with conventional systems would have required significantly more speakers.
After detailed venue modeling using K-array's comprehensive K-Framework 3D software during the proposal phase, Ovation Audio Visual designed the main PA system around the Kayman series, chosen for its power to size ratio. The lighter weight of the Kayman KP52 provided the coverage and output required while staying within the facility's rigging constraints, allowing Ovation to provide a premium sound solution at a more affordable cost.
"This is the second larger format PA we've installed using K-array,” says Bob Cochran, owner of Ovation. “It's incredible what these discrete looking systems are capable of, both in terms of SPL and articulation. I love seeing clients' jaws hit the floor when they hear these systems."
The final system configuration includes 15 Kayman-KY52 line array speakers flown using K-FLY3 steel bars for secure installation, complemented by twelve GH4 ultra compact point source speakers positioned under the balcony for fill coverage, three KS4P powered subwoofers for low frequency support, and a combination of KA28+ and KA208+ amplifiers.
