Live streaming is integral to how houses of worship communicate with congregants today, and it’s also taken on an important function in government. Committed to advancing its live stream capabilities, the Fijian Parliament recently collaborated with New Zealand-based systems integrator Gencom Technology to revamp its pipeline. A major goal of the upgrade was to advance real-time captioning and multi-language transmission capabilities, as Fijians speak three different languages during proceedings. Gencom first transitioned the facility’s original workflow from analog to digital and baseband to Dante AV-over-IP.
As a result, translators, sign language professionals, captioners, and others are now able to access the main program feed of live proceedings for wide-ranging needs. In each translation or captioning booth, two people can watch and listen to what's being said on the floor in Vosa Vakaviti (native Fijian), Fijian Hindi, and English, and complete translations. Translated feeds are then pushed out to displays on the parliament floor and via a public broadcast.
“Since the translators and captioners needed to be able to monitor audio and video, Dante AV and AJA’s Dante AV 4K products provided an ideal complement. They’ve made it easy to move audio and video from the broadcast facilities to anywhere on campus over the IP network,” Bremner explained. “Having a live visual of what’s happening on the floor is key to the translation and captioning process, and that’s where AJA’s Dante AV products are helpful. They make it easy and cost-efficient for the Fijian Parliament to distribute the video signals across campus using Dante infrastructure."
