Wowza Media Systems for video and audio streaming announce the release of a number of updates for its Wowza Streaming Cloud service, designed to accelerate the delivery of HTTP Live Streaming (HLS) workflows by upwards of 50 to 60%. “The new single-click lower-latency workflows present a new industry benchmark for HLS streaming to any device, anywhere in the world. In addition to the latency improvements, Wowza Streaming Cloud trial users now have access a development testing environment to work with Wowza APIs and SDKs, and can now integrate the new Wowza Player,” according to the company's press release.
“Wowza Streaming Cloud is now the ultimate solution for HLS live-streaming when speed is critical, with easy-to-use presets that reduce latency and eliminate the need for difficult configuration,” says David Stubenvoll, CEO and co-founder of Wowza Media Systems. “These updates provide greater flexibility as the industry shifts toward a Flash-less ecosystem, changing the game for how customers can reduce streaming latency with ease.”
Lower-Latency HLS
Cutting inherent latency virtually in half, the new presets are designed to reduce end-to-end latency for HLS streams. Users check the “Low Latency Stream” option during setup, and Wowza preconfigures the streams to reduce latency to 15 seconds or less. Promising best-in-class chunk-size management, with the Wowza CDN, the new options also allow content providers to fine-tune settings.
Wowza Streaming Cloud API Sandbox Now Available for Trial Users
The Wowza Streaming Cloud API Sandbox is a testing environment for developers to build and test REST API calls. This test area directly within Wowza Streaming Cloud gives developers the ability to deploy, test and make changes, without incurring usage charges or impacting production workflows. Additionally, Wowza has updated its set of code samples and development documentation to help speed of deploy streaming applications.
Wowza Player Public Preview
The new Wowza Player (currently in preview) completes the new low-latency HLS workflows based on Wowza technology. Designed to be easy to use, the Wowza Player can be implemented directly from the Wowza Streaming Cloud user interface. Wowza Player is designed as a lightweight and responsive HTML5 player to work across all browsers, operating systems and endpoints, and is available with any Wowza streaming license.
