At the Longmont campus of Flatirons Community Church in Colorado, the lighting fixtures are at the end of their lifecycle. They don’t zoom and have a limited color wheel of barely 12 colors. So, when campus Lighting Designer and Production Manager Ezekiel Castillo was asked to participate in a Church Production Road Test User Experience for High End Systems Ministar moving lights, he jumped at it.
"I really love the zoom...you can make it a pin spot...or you can wash your entire room." - Ezekiel Castillo, Flatirons Church
“This opportunity to try out the Ministars was really great because we got to see what the new technology is going towards,” Castillo says.
Designed for small to medium-sized performance venues, Ministar’s feature set includes VersaColor with over 60 unique colors. “I really loved the VersaColor that they had in there. That really surprised me actually, the way it snapped between the colors and how fast it was because mostly with color wheels, you get color wheels that are swiping through all of the colors,” Castillo enthuses.
The Ministar also has QuadraTech, rotating and fixed gobo wheels, variable medium diffusion, prism, and 6.5°– 48° zoom, all in a compact luminaire. “I really love the zoom aspect of it, and you can make it a pin spot if you wanted to, or you can literally make an entire wash light that washes almost to your entire room, depending on how high you hang it and where you have it positioned.”
Ministar offers punchy output, a high-impact feature set, and ETC's renowned quality, all at a more affordable price point. “We love seeing just the brightness of it in our room because our lights just do not have that brightness or even half of that brightness,” Castillo explains. “And we love seeing just how fast they were with the color wheel and everything and seeing what we can really do with them.”
