The sanctuary at Oaks Church in McKinney, Texas isn’t very big, seating less than 500 people. Audio wise, the area has been covered well with the church’s current eight-speaker system without counting subs. But the tech team was surprised they could get the same amount of coverage with just two K-array Pinnacle KR802 II loudspeaker system.
The K-array Kayman KY102 loudspeaker system has been awarded the Church Production Road Tested certification.
“It shocked us how great a small column speaker could sound like,” says Oaks Church Media and Production Director, Abner Cruz. “I was really impressed by the size versus volume. So, when the lead pastor came up on a Sunday, listened to the system during worship live, the first impression he had was, ‘Wow, this sounds really good.’”
As part of Church Production’s Road Test User Experience, we asked Cruz and his team to try out the K-array Pinnacle KR802 II system. They are vertical column speakers with a sub at the bottom. It's an expandable system with two column speakers per side, but they can go up to four and grow with a church.
The K-array system is a two-way powered system with DSP built in to the subs and you can connect them to a network or directly connect a laptop to the ethernet port. And Cruz says the DSP is actually very feature rich.
“Anything from what you do on a Sunday to commercial installs, they have it there,” he explains. “Since K-array does a little bit of everything, including commercial installs, theater work, and now house of worship, their DSP was very feature rich for setting limiters and other presets. It even had its own little media player if you needed it.”
