Many churches want to capture live video of their services with a stunning cinematic look. However, when they get a cinema type camera, they find it’s hard to grab focus because they’re using a different kind of lens that has a shallow depth of field. Add in iris control, along with pulling focus and it becomes too much for a single operator to handle well.
It is truly the best of both the live production studio world and the cinematic camera world coming together,” - Will Chapman, Cottonwood Creek Church, Allen, Tex.
Panasonic is offering a solution to this with the AK-PLV100 4K CINELIVE Studio Camera. As part of the Church Production User Experience Road Test, Will Chapman agreed to try it out at Cottonwood Creek Church in Allen, Texas. He says the PLV100 has indeed solved the problems because it’s a cinema camera that offers the option of a camera control unit (CCU and/or a remote operation panel (ROP).
“With the PLV100, you can have somebody in the control room who can help with the iris --- who can help with the focus and really get that shot you're looking for in a live environment. It is truly the best of both the live production studio world and the cinematic camera world coming together,” he explains.
As far as incorporating the PLV100 camera into their system, Chapman says it was surprisingly easy and similar to setting up their other studio cameras without a lot of hoops to jump through. And he says the difference it made was powerful.
“This camera opened up just a wealth of creative possibilities to be able to communicate in an emotional, in a heartfelt --- in a sweeping and grandiose style of showing what was happening in the room, but also bring that person who was watching the broadcast in for those intimate moments so that they could connect with that message that can ultimately change their life,” he concludes.
