It’s no secret that LED lighting is the fixture of choice for most church architects and designers today. They are more energy efficient, can do more, and are cheaper for a church in the long run.
Bruce Jordahl, marketing communications specialist with High End Systems, notes installations in many industries have reaped the benefits of LED lamp technology, and churches have really started to make use of the technology for its theatrical and architectural lighting over the last decade.
“LED technology offers significant advantages over traditional arc lamps. Power requirements are greatly reduced, [and] there’s no lamp to change so labor and other costs are reduced and the colors and effects are cutting edge.” Bruce Jordahl, Marketing Communications Specialist, High End Systems
“LED technology offers significant advantages over traditional arc lamps,” he says. “Power requirements are greatly reduced; there’s no lamp to change so labor and other costs are reduced and the colors and effects are cutting edge.”
High End Systems’ Sola Series products all feature the company’s patented Lens Defogger System, which prevents the outer lens from fogging, a common occurrence with LED products.
Luke Delwiche, entertainment market manager for Electronic Theatre Controls (ETC), says while LED usage has happened quickly, it’s getting to the point of being a mature technology.
“A big topic today is about consistency and color quality, which was a challenge for many years,” he says. “These are still concerns, but companies like us spend a lot of time creating the perfect array of LEDs. Churches like these because of energy savings and the ease of color mixing.”
Here is a look at a few of the latest LED fixtures available.
Inspire Mini | Chroma-Q
A new addition to its product line, the Chroma-Q Inspire LED house light is a powerful multi-purpose creative lighting tool that provides churches with the ability to transform the look and feel of their worship space by seamlessly transcending the physical barrier between the stage and audience. The fixtures offer a wide range of beautiful whites, soft pastels and bold saturates, and its fully homogenised lens options allows an easy use of mixed colors.
SolaFrame Theatre | High End Systems
SolaFrame Theatre is the industry’s first automated LED luminaire to deliver completely silent operation. Engineered with no fans, the fixture features a special high-CRI Bright White LED engine, delivering 15,000 field lumens. It features a full-frame shuttering system, making it a natural fit for designers that work in worship facilities where fixture noise is simply not acceptable.
SolaFrame 750 | High End Systems
The SolaFrame 750 boasts a compact footprint but a huge feature set, making it a perfect fit for smaller to medium-sized churches. It offers 11,300 lumens, 6-50 degree zoom, a rotating gobo wheel and fully continuous animation. The SolaFrame 750 also offers the widest array of effects currently available in a fixture of its size.
ArcSystem | ETC
The ArcSystem is an LED family of products designed for easy installation, high-quality light, and smooth dimming. ArcSystem luminaires boast high-efficiency optics, optional fade to warm technology and a variety of form factor, beam angle, color temperature, power and control options. Thanks to low energy usage, convection-cooling technology and the optional wireless ArcMesh protocol, ArcSystem installations normally see energy savings between 70-90%, with systems often paying for themselves within two to five years. That’s welcome news for any worship venue.
ColorSource PAR | ETC
The ColorSource PAR, an LED luminaire crafted by lighting experts, utilized a proportionate recipe of red, green, blue, a twist of lime and an extra dash of red to expand the ColorSource PAR’s color range. This provides a richness only possible from ETC LED luminaires. It outputs bright, beautiful light, is easy to use—with or without a lighting desk—and lives up to ETC's high standards for quality. It’s available in both original or deep blue array options.
ColorSource Spot | ETC
The ColorSource Spot is a leader in four-color LED profiles due to its precise combination of red, green, blue and lime emitters. ETC applied its extensive color-mixing knowledge to the fixture to ensure that it can achieve brighter, richer and more believable colors than other budget LEDs. It accepts all the Source Four LED accessories, zoom and fixed-focus lens tubes, and CYC and Fresnel adapters. This is available in original or deep blue array options.
Source 4WRD | ETC
The Source 4WRD LED lets worship spaces update their existing full-size tungsten Source Four ellipsoidals to incredible LED efficiency in just seconds. Source 4WRD is as bright as a 575-watt, extended life HPL lamp, but with 70% less power and no re-lamping. Source 4WRD PAR and PARNel fixture bodies bring controlled wash light forward as well, with the same stunning optics and performance as the original PAR and PARNel 750W/575W HPL variety.
