Dallas-based MYCON General Contractors has begun construction of a new worship space along with selective renovations to existing areas for St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church, according to David Pinson, MYCON’s project executive.
Located on 5.58 acres at 2910 Corn Valley Road in Grand Prairie, the focal point of the project is the new construction of a 19,670-square-foot sanctuary with a seating capacity of 1,004. The main space will feature clerestory windows, a vaulted ceiling terminating at a cupola above the altar, a custom wood-trimmed stained glass screen between the sanctuary and adoration chapel and a stone baptistery with flowing water. Interior finishes include brick, custom millwork, and stone and porcelain tile on the floor and lower portion of the walls. Exterior improvements include a loggia denoting the new entrance, additional parking, site lighting and a detention pond with a weir system. All work will be performed while the existing facility stays fully operational.

“We are honored to have been selected for this project,” says Pinson. “Our experience in building more than 30 religious projects will be beneficial since plans call for construction to occur while the church stays fully functional and has uninterrupted services, classes and events.”
The architect on the project is GFF Architects in Dallas, Texas. Program manager is Building Solutions. Construction is slated for completion in August 2020.
