No secret here—audio, video and lighting technology is always changing. And lighting in particular, with all the advances in LED light source technology, is one of the biggest areas for rapid innovation. With LED light sources getting brighter and more cost effective, the product lineup is constantly improving, too, both in fixtures and in other lighting products.
CPM reached out to several church-targeted lighting manufacturers and asked them to tell us about some of their latest and greatest for the church market.
ADJ Lighting Focus Spot 4Z
The Focus Spot 4Z is ideal for houses of worship because of its power, versatility and features. It is powered by a 200W white LED (8,000K), offering a high output spot-type beam with very little maintenance. It has a zoom range of 11-22 degrees that allows the spot to cover a small or large area, depending on the size of the stage and effects styles created by the designer. It also has a rotating five-facet linear and six-facet circular prism to add to the effects that may be created. Another feature to note is the motorized focus function on the fixture. A designer can change the focus on a color or gobo to create a focused hard edge or an out-of-focus soft edge, the company reports. The Focus Spot 4Z’s footprint and weight is smaller than traditional spot movers with this type of output, and its size allows for more fixtures to be set on a stage or hung on truss—even for smaller houses of worship.

The fixture also uses proprietary Chroma-Q technology to ensure a smooth dimmer curve from 0-100 on standard dimming systems. Elation Rayzor760 LED Wash Luminaire
The Rayzor 760 is an LED wash luminaire with extra wide 1:15 zoom and patent-pending SparkLED pixel effect system. Driven by seven independently controlled 60W RGBW LEDs with a wide 5-degree to 77-degree zoom, the fixture can produce an intense and well-defined mid-air beam of over 8,000 lumens, and then spread exceptionally wide for even wash coverage. It is therefore useful as a beam effect in theatrical shows or to employ as a wash for the worship team or to enhance the architectural features of a facility. The fixture’s seven oversized front lenses create a large surface that is enhanced by SparkLED technology—28 2W white LEDs strategically placed inside the lenses themselves that create a unique additional layer effect. The dedicated high-brightness pixels lend new possibilities for creating layers of effect through elegant lens illumination and eye-candy twinkle effects. It also offers continuous pan and tilt rotation for slow to extremely fast movement effects. Combining its powerful output with SparkLED while utilizing the 360-degree movement opens up a multitude of design possibilities, from mid-air beams or wide stage washes to subtler effects for mood generation, both off and on camera.

Follow-Me Tracking System
Follow-Me is a cost-effective, Art-Net-based calibration software package that utilizes moving lights as follow-spots. Where traditional methods of using FOH or truss-mounted follow spots impose cost and rigging implications, Follow-Me offers a money-saving, quick-to-implement alternative, according to the manufacturer. While Follow-Me can be used to follow one or more performers with multiple moving heads, individual fixture selection offers the additional functionality of preset positioning for solos and surprise performances.
Follow-Me offers a range of advantages over traditional follow spot usage: lower labor costs, freedom in lamp positioning, improved follow-spot angles, eliminated kill seats, accurate timing for color bump cues, and following of performers with gobo effects or color chases. Follow-Me also solves weight issues on smaller roofs where typical truss seats with the follow-spots and their operators are too heavy or deep to implement.
