Electro-Voice has released its new ND Series of microphones. As the successor to the company's N/Dym Series, the ND Series features eight new models; four tailored towards vocals and the others for instruments. Unveiled at the 2016 Winter NAMM show, each microphone, both vocal and instrumental, has been designed with features that are unique to both its price and particular application.
The ND Series dynamic vocal microphones include the ND76 and ND76S (with on/off switch). They feature a cardioid polar pattern and pronounced upper-mid-range presence peak. The ND86 features a supercardioid pattern, suitable for noisy stage environments. Rounding out the series is the ND96 which also features a supercardioid pattern along with a tailored frequency curve and squared-off grille, allowing singers to get as close as possible to the capsule.
For both live sound and studio work, the ND Series features four different models tailored for instruments. The ND44 is a lightweight clip-on dynamic mic suited for toms and snare drums. It features a quick mounting clip and low profile for proper angling. Engineers will also find this model usable with guitar cabinets. Featuring the same low profile and positioning design, the ND46 has an extended low frequency response, lending itself towards floor toms and bass guitar cabinets. The ND66 is a small-diaphragm condenser featuring various filters, pads, and a locking pivoting head–which Electro-Voice says is the only one of its kind on the market–making it suitable for overheads, hi-hats, acoustic guitar, and other close-miked applications. Rounding out the series is the ND68. Built to handle high SPL and extended low frequency response, this model is tailored towards kick drums and other bass instruments.
Shipping in the spring of 2016, the new ND Series offers a wide selection of options for both live sound and studio applications.
