Sony laser light source projection models range from business projectors up to large-venue units. In 2013 Sony announced the first laser projector featuring 3LCD technology – The VPL-FHZ55. Since that first introduction, Sony’s product line has steadily grown. At InfoComm 2017, Sony displayed the company’s two newest models in its LaserLite series -- VPL-PHZ10 (WUXGA) and VPL-PWZ10 (WXGA).
According to a company release, “These new projectors deliver all the benefits of laser technology -- image quality, color reproduction, long-lasting light source and virtually zero-maintenance. They also give customers a more cost-effective entry point for upgrading their technology. Users can now convert an entire facility to laser, where in the past, a mix of laser and lamp models made more sense due to budget constraints.”
Starting at $2,199, these models are designed for a number of segments including education, faith and corporate.
With the latest model additions, Sony’s professional laser projector family totals 16 models - starting at 2,000 lumens and going up to 7,000 lumens, in WXGA, WUXGA and 4K resolutions, with black and white chassis options.
Sony’s larger venue projectors combine a laser light source with 4K resolution. At InfoComm, Sony’s spotlight was on two models: the VPL-GTZ270, and its sibling the VPL-GTZ280. The VPL-GTZ270 is suited for entertainment, including planetariums, theme parks, museums and retail. The VPL-GTZ280 is designed for simulation, visualization and training environments.
Each feature up to 5,000-lumen output capability and can operate in 4K 3D mode. They are designed for multi-projection blending, have sealed optics for dust-resistance and operate at less than 35dB.
According to the company release, “These projectors are continually enhanced to deliver new features. One such new feature common to both is color calibration, allowing adjustment of functions like brightness & color, uniformity and color space.”
