There are so many options of equipment to use, so many options of ways to accomplish a goal, that one is always left wondering what to do. I regularly get people/churches asking me what gear we use and where they can buy it. But is this even the right set of questions? How do we make these decisions?
Fundamentally, we need to look at why we are here. Whatever we are doing, we should always be pointing to Jesus and the Cross. Every action we take should be representative of the fact that Christ died on the Cross for us and our sins. That much should be clear, but how does that play out when it comes to technology? Whether it's audio, video, lighting, internet streaming, IT, or guitars there needs to be a good reason, and it better be Cross focused. If we are doing things just to do them, we are wasting valuable time, money, and quite frankly our lives.
I will to be looking at technology and how it is a medium to communicate the Gospel message. I'm hoping that I'll be able to communicate some good and helpful information, so feedback from you is essential. Everything will come through the lens of "How does it really communicate the Gospel?" Sometimes, that is an easy question to answer, sometimes it is a hard one. Unfortunately, the answer is not clear cut and requires some inspection of why we are doing what we are doing.
Please join me on the journey. If you have questions or topics you'd like me to cover, please let me know. I may not have all the answers right now, but I will try to find them. I certainly am learning everyday, and want to help you by sharing my many mistakes and the things I've learned. You can contact me on Twitter @MWJosey and/or email me at MWJosey@ctdrt.com.
