From reading the title of the devotion, you may be thinking that it is a silly question. For certainly there would not be any kind of Christian ministry apart from Christ. While that is certainly true, this devotion is centered on the way that Christ's example of humility should directly impact our service to, and part in the life of, the church, His bride.
Read Philippians 2:5-11
5 Make your own attitude that of Christ Jesus, 6 who, existing in the form of God, did not consider equality with God as something to be used for His own advantage. 7 Instead He emptied Himself by assuming the form of a •slave, taking on the likeness of men. And when He had come as a man in His external form, 8 He humbled Himself by becoming obedient to the point of death - even to death on a cross. 9 For this reason God highly exalted Him and gave Him the name that is above every name, 10 so that at the name of Jesus every knee will bow - of those who are in heaven and on earth and under the earth - 11 and every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
Verse five represents the primary imperative of this passage: that as members of the church we would make our attitudes like that of Christ. There are many passages in which we are called to imitate Christ - to be Christ like. How can we be Christ like in technology ministry? What are some specific areas in which we can exemplify this command?
Paul goes on in verse six and seven to describe the degree of Christ's humility in light of His incarnation. Certainly whatever role we are asked to play in the life of the church requires much less humility than for God to become His creation.
Christ has most poignantly exemplified humility for us through His work on the cross - and this is Paul's focus in verses eight through 10. While it is impossible to compare the types of sacrifices we are called upon to make as tech servants within the body of Christ with that which He made for us on the cross, it is imperative that we take His sacrifice as an example and certainly as a motivation. Paul is specifically interjecting this talk about Christ's death, not only to remind the church of the price at which it was purchased, but the example of humility that is to permeate and characterize our life together.
Verse eleven culminates this discussion of Christ's incarnation and work on the cross with a declaration of the purpose behind it all - that God would receive glory. The Church has been saved and set aside to bring God glory - and our having humility fosters the type of unity that reflects our God well to the world.
