Marketing and branding isn't really my thing. I marvel at the creativity of church promos that go beyond clips of the Sunday service and explore meaningful ideas. A good promo demonstrates that the church will meet the needs of individuals and the community. That takes serious research and marketing genius.
But perhaps you find yourself in a situation like mine, where the glorious utopian movie studio you work for is suddenly going to be shut down by The Mouse, you have an epic job search to kick off, but you'd still like to update the general promo on your church website. Or lets just say you're really busy and would still like to do that update without shooting new content. For our one-minute promo, I explored the video archive and came upon some testimonies shot for a documentary about people's walk with God. In some of these interviews, people said some nice things about the church. So why not let a few members of the church talk about how Hilltop Community played a part in their life? I was then able to assemble this promo.
These people weren't asked to give glowing endorsements of the church services. They simply touched on the subject for a moment within an hour's interview. And since all that is needed is a few sound bites, you might just find that you already have the voiceover you need for a promo within previously recorded interviews.
But if such recordings aren't conveniently archived on your miniDV shelf, consider gathering such interviews without directly fishing for the statements you think would cut in with your planned promo. Just let people talk and eventually hit on what they think of their church and what drew them there. Then build the promo around their unscripted voiceover. The result is a promo that takes an honest look at your church.
Or perhaps marketing is your thing. If you've created a promo that can inspire the rest of one, or found one online, please link it in a comment below.
