So we got this idea to give out DVDs at our October Carnival to show visitors what goes on at Hilltop Community Church when the place isn’t taken over by ring-toss and giant inflatable slides.
But as with many nobel plans, we didn't think of this as far in advance as one might desire. Had a week. Script? No time. Recording session for a voiceover? Maybe next time. Let the kids tell it like it is.
Sunday morning we brought our young volunteers into a quite classroom and asked them questions about children's church. We asked them to speak louder. We asked them to stop fiddling with the mic cable. The latter two requests didn't go so well, and so the audio quality leaves something to be desired (solutions, anyone?), but we ultimately got some good sound bites.
We were also able to hit our deadline thanks to hard drives fully stocked with children's church videos. I had been intending to archive the raw video and previous editing projects to discs to save space. I doubt I would have finished on time if I had to pull content from discs. As it was, I could drop in other promos and montages on hand as bonus features. Lesson learned: Shell out for some external hard drives and keep everything handy. You never know.
Can't wait to see what kind of videos we could produce if we actually planned well enough in advance. But what fun is that?
