The life of a church staff tech is normally extremely busy, but throw in an in-house remodel project, and staff can quickly become overloaded. How did Church on the Move (COTM) in Tulsa, Okla., deal with adding this project to their schedule?
“In a word, it was crazy—unbelievably crazy,” says Andrew Stone, production manager and audio director at Church on the Move. “Like most other churches of this size, we have a terribly busy weekly schedule that never ends. And during this very quick 18-week remodel, we had to add several more weekly services to accommodate our congregation. Coupled with the responsibility of keeping the same type of feel for our events while doing them temporarily between our Fellowship Hall auditorium and our youth building auditorium, it was a complicated time.”
Stone adds, “We basically split up most of our staff and volunteers to handle all of the primary event responsibilities at each venue and ran with more of a skeleton crew. Since the remodel was during the summer (May to September), we didn't have any major holiday production events to navigate. Our production crew [also] stayed dedicated to the task at hand by staying around and putting vacations and such off until we were through with the remodel.”
