MyMon from Waves allows performers to make EQ adjustments to their main monitor mix with a colorful graphical interface.
The Waves eMotion LV1 digital mixer takes the digital mixer progression to its logical end, embracing the fact that a digital mixer is simply specialized software. Add a computer, DSP, I/O and displays, and LV1 becomes a complete mixing system without even a single physical fader.
New to the Waves eMotion product line is the MyMon personal monitor mixing app, designed in part for worship leaders and church musicians. MyMon works with both Android and iOS (iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch) devices, giving performers the ability to create their own monitor mix. Each device running the MyMon app connects to the eMotion LV1 mixer over a secure wi-fi link. Up to 16 MyMon devices can be used at the same time.
MyMon allows each performer to control level, pan and mute of individual channels assigned to their mix bus, plus EQ adjustments to the overall mix.
Once installed and connected at your church, MyMon allows each performer to control level, pan and mute of individual channels assigned to their mix bus. Four Link groups can also be created with any combination of channels for one-touch control over level and mute. With 32- and 64-channel versions of LV1, MyMon will also control groups and effects returns. MyMon offers some basic features to save settings, including link names and assignments.
Devices running MyMon can be locked for security, which addresses one challenge of bring-your-own-device setups -- especially with new volunteer church techs and novice singers etc. That leaves a host of other challenges not found with dedicated hardware, including battery depletion, screens powering off, unwanted interruptions from messages or phone calls, and more. We look forward to seeing if MyMon has any additional features or controls to address these issues.
In default setups, LV1 inserts Waves zero-latency eMo Q4 EQ across all output busses. If this plug-in is present, MyMon allows performers to make EQ adjustments to their main monitor mix with a colorful graphical interface. Currently, MyMon will control no other plug-ins.
MyMon claims to be finger-friendly, with easy "swipe" navigation and double-tap resets. We look forward to testing the app's user interface. One feature we don't need to test to appreciate: MyMon works in both vertical and horizontal screen orientations. This gives the performer flexibility in how their device is mounted. With more performers using personal monitoring software on their own devices, a range of mounting products are now available for attaching phones or tablets to microphone or music stands.
MyMon is available now as a free download from the Apple App Store and Google Play.
