Once again, LDI 2014 in Las Vegas showcased hundreds of new LED products for stage lighting and projection. One of the most interesting new products was the new ADJ Flat Par TW12. I am sure the first question that comes to mind is, “What exactly is a ‘Flat Par'?”
With the introduction of LEDs into stage lighting fixtures, manufacturers have started designing smaller exterior housings. The Flat Par gets its name from the shape of the lighting fixture. Unlike conventional incandescent Pars that require a significant amount of depth to house and ventilate the lamp, the Flat Par only requires the small amount of depth to house the LED elements. In the case of ADJ's TW12, the lighting fixture is only 4.25 inches thick. The smaller mass of this fixture also means less weight, thus, the Flat Par TW12 only weighs 7.5 pounds. This is very important for houses of worship that have limited weight-bearing loads for their lighting hanging positions—and for portable churches where staff has to carry equipment in and out of a building each week.
Up Close
We see the adj flat par tw12 as a powerful addition to your lighting toolkit and suggest that you check it out in person. It’s a great "bang-for-your-buck" solution to your stage lighting needs.
The ADJ Flat Par TW12 is a white, 60W LED wash fixture. It features 12 five-watt “tri-white” three-in-one LEDs. These LEDs feature a warm white, cool white and amber element. The fixture is designed to offer the designer a wide variety of white colors. This combination allows designers to control and mix the color temperature from warm amber (2,700K) to daylight blue (6,500K). The fixture is ideal for front light applications where a good white color is needed to bring out flesh tones. It is also ideal for color balancing for video.
Our testing confirmed how accurate the specifications are. We tested this Par next to an incandescent Par 64. We were able to match the warm color of the incandescent lamp. In addition, we were able to dial in the cool LEDs to create a much cooler white color similar to a discharge lamp. We were happy to find very little of the dreaded colored shadows that are common with other LED Par designs. The last thing you want to see on a video monitor is multi-colored collar shadows on the pastor's white shirt!
Added Appeal
We were happy to find very little of the dreaded colored shadows that are common with other LED Par designs.
We also tested the dimming curve of the ADJ Flat Par TW12. It has a very smooth low-intensity curve with no flicker. This is a critical consideration when testing LED fixtures. Speaking of intensity, we were very impressed with how the fixture compared to a conventional Par. It is extremely bright. It also features a very smooth field, nice soft edges, and can change color. These qualities make the ADJ Flat Par TW12 an ideal fixture for video lighting.
The ADJ Flat Par TW12 has a 40-degree beam angle. This is a good beam specification because the fixture's intensity makes it ideal for an approximate throw distance of around 15-20 feet. The fixture also has built-in pulse and strobe effects, and can be controlled by its rear LED display as well as through conventional DMX protocol. It also has a clever scissor yoke with rubber feet for floor mounting, as well as an included color frame holder for colored or diffusion gels. An optional IR remote is available to allow you to control it without a lighting console. Like most LED fixtures, the beauty lies in the sustainability features of the technology. With all LEDs on at full, the power draw is only 61W. The lamp life is approximately 50,000 hours. The price-to-feature ratio is notable: the list price is only $349.99. Street prices are sure to be lower.
The ADJ Flat Par TW12 is an impressive LED wash fixture for multiple uses in your house of worship. We see it as a powerful addition to your lighting toolkit and suggest that you check it out in person. It's a great “bang-for-your-buck” solution to your stage lighting needs.
