Even though we may not be the ones up on the stage presenting the drama, music, or sermon, our role is still just as important.
Easter. It all comes down to this. This is our game day. The main attraction. Our big event. Easter. The day that we celebrate the resurrection of the Savior of the world. Sure, Christmas is great, but without the resurrection of Jesus, his birth wouldn't have much significance. The resurrection of our Lord is the event on which our faith rests.
Our enemy will still do whatever possible to stop, confuse, slow down, and otherwise discredit our attempts at proclaiming the name of Jesus.
As a tech director, this is the most important service of the year. Our churches will be welcoming many people who only attend only once or twice a year and it's up to us to make sure that it all comes together smoothly. If there is ever a time to get it right, that time is now.
Just because you use your equipment every week don't assume it won't on fail Easter Sunday. Maybe it seems redundant, but taking a little bit more time in preparation can save you from loads of embarrassment and stress during your Easter services. It is also prudent to make sure that you have plenty of supplies on hand: extra cables, gaffer's tape, and any other expendables that you might need in the moment.
As you go over the physical preparations for Easter don't forget to also prepare spiritually. Although followers of Jesus look at this day as Jesus' greatest triumph this is also the devil's greatest defeat. Our enemy will still do whatever possible to stop, confuse, slow down, and otherwise discredit our attempts at proclaiming the name of Jesus.
Spending time testing and preparing equipment is important but spending time in prayer is even more critical to the success of your Easter productions. Here are some of the things that we should be praying for in the days before Easter:
Philippians 4:6 Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.
The Production
Be praying that everything goes smoothly on Easter Sunday. Ask God to ensure that the equipment all functions properly and that you have the wisdom to fix anything that does not.
Pray for any actors and singers that will be performing, that they remember their parts and that they present it with excellence. Pray for each ministry that will be serving that week and that they will all show God's love to every person that walks through your doors.
The People
Each person, from the strongest believer to the first-time guest that walks through your doors is coming to experience God in some way. Pray that God prepares their hearts in advance to experience his love, transformation, and resurrection power. Ask the Lord to draw people that are far from Him to come and take a step of faith to follow Christ.
The Pastor
Spend some time praying that God will give your pastor a fresh anointing and divine inspiration as he plans the words that he will speak. Ask God to help your pastor to communicate the truth about Christ's resurrection in a powerful and relevant way that will transform many lives.
So, even though we may not be the ones up on the stage presenting the drama, music, or sermon our role is still just as important. This Easter let us come with our hearts prepared to see God do great things.
