QSC has unveiled its new K Cardioid Subwoofer at the 2017 NAMM Show in Anaheim, California. Deploying a compact design, the powered subwoofer represents a highly portable solution for live entertainment and installation applications.
In typical subwoofer deployments, sound radiates in all directions, resulting in unwanted low frequency build up on stage, not to mention wasted SPL at the rear of the system. While cardioid arrangements–directing the majority of sound energy forward and to the sides–can be accomplished through multiple box configurations and with the aid of delay processing, this can prove costly to many.
Designed to accomplish this arrangement from a single box, the K Cardioid Subwoofer utilizes dual, 12-inch long excursion drivers in a bandpass chamber. Driven by a 1,000-watt Class D amplifier and internal DSP, QSC says this provides almost 15dB more output at the front of the cabinet than the rear. As a portable addition to the company's existing K Series, the subwoofer features aluminum handles, four, rear-mounted casters and two 35mm speaker pole sockets, allowing for vertical or horizontal deployment with other top enclosures.
Shipping will begin in the first half of 2017 with a retail price of $1,399.
