When the musicians at St. Michael's Lutheran Church in Bloomington, Minn., first encountered the MyMix personal monitor system, they knew there was no going back to analog monitoring. “They just could not believe the difference between the analog and the digital systems,” recalls Rick Martin, director of production ministry at the church.
Allowing individual users to select up to 16 unique channels, MyMix enables the adjustment of channel volume, tone, effect send and pan. Up to 20 named profiles can be stored on each station, and musicians can record up to 18 tracksincluding 16 individual channels plus the user's stereo mix. Currently, St. Michael's is using 10 MyMix systems.
There are two different praise bands at St. Michael's, each featuring two guitarists, a bassist, a drummer, and between three or four vocalists. Personal monitoring is essential due to the layout of the facility, Martin explains. “In the area where the praise bands play, they are really not able to hear what's going on,” he says. MyMix solved this issue, giving each performer the ability to create their own mix according to their own personal preferences. “The personal choice was one of the reasons we went to these systems,” Martin adds.
Just before Christmas, St. Michael's upgraded its system to include MyMix Control, remote control, and configuration software designed for spaces featuring a large number of MyMix stations. For Martin, the most attractive feature of MyMix Control is its storage capability: technicians can now save and store individual profiles and recall them instantly.
“Because I have different praise bands that I'm working with, it's going to be wonderful for me to just save that group of individuals and all of their preferences, and then to be able to just recall it, rather than having to manually go in and update it each week. That's the big plus for me it just cuts down on my set-up time,” Martin says.
