Church at Viera, aka CAV, in Melbourne, Fla., currently supports four weekend services, as well as multiple video feed venues, online live stream, and is adding a fifth service starting January 8, 2017. Worship Arts Pastor Trevor Hislop reports that CAV's continued growth caused church leadership teams to consider the upgrade of weekend audio production systems as the former 48 I/O digital system was already pushed to its limits. Improving the in-ear monitor equipment and increasing the quality of the live stream broadcast mix were also important concerns.
In the Fall of 2016, Church at Viera leadership decided to overhaul the front-of-house (FOH) audio console and video projection systems with the installation of an Allen & Heath (A&H) dLive S7000/DM64 digital mixing system and a Digital Projection (DP) E-Vision 8500 laser projector.
“The dLive system sounds amazing! It's warm, smooth, and everything you'd expect from Allen & Heath. There was an immediate ‘Ahhh…' when we heard it for the first time,” says Production Director Eli Higginbotham. The CAV production staff received positive feedback from their congregation on day one. In addition to the enhanced sonic performance of the dLive system, the DM64 rack expanded the limitation of having 16 output busses to now having 32, and can be expanded further, which enables CAV to significantly grow in the future.
CAV also expanded their IEM capability by adding nine A&H ME1 systems that are managed through an A&H ME-U hub. “Giving the band 40 input sources to mix was a huge win,” explains CAV Technical Director Doug Schaefer. “The ME1 systems are simple to use and the ability to build an in-ear mix as deep as 40 inputs really helps the band members be more dynamic and expressive.”
Immediately after the dLive install, CAV also installed a Digital Projection E-Vision 8500 laser projector that is prominently displayed on a 22' x 19' video wall at the back of the stage in their primary worship venue. Higginbotham says, “We needed an ultra short throw solution that wasn't going to cost $50K. After looking at many different projectors the DP 8500 was a no brainer! It was perfect for what we needed.”
